Free head and neck cancer screenings will be offered by Smilow Cancer Hospital and the Yale Cancer Center this month.
The “five-minute checkup from the neck up” will be held in Bridgeport, Waterbury and New Haven.
More than 50,000 Americans are diagnosed each year with cancer of the nose, sinuses, mouth, ears, throat, larynx, thyroid, salivary glands and lymph nodes of the neck, according to a release. Half of patients die within five years, making it important to detect the cancer in its early stage.
The checkups will be held at the following locations:
- Bridgeport Hospital MedEase and Gyn Oncology Clinic, 267 Grant St., Bridgeport, 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 6. Validated parking available in the garage.
- Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 12. Free parking is available.
- Yale-New Haven Hospital East Pavilion special events area, 20 York St., New Haven, 2-6 p.m. April 15. Validated parking available in the Air Rights Garage.
