The Greater Waterbury YMCA is offering a free 12-week wellness program specially designed for cancer survivors.
Developed in partnership with the LIVESTRONG Foundation, the program helps participants regain strength, improve physical fitness, reduce cancer-related fatigue, and enhance overall quality of life following treatment.
The program includes:
- Two 75- to 90-minute sessions each week over 12 weeks
- Cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, balance, and flexibility exercises
- Fitness and quality-of-life assessments before and after participation
- YMCA-certified instructors specially trained in cancer survivorship and supportive care
- A supportive group setting that encourages connection and motivation among participants
The program is open to cancer survivors age 18 and older, whether they are newly diagnosed, currently undergoing treatment, in remission, or years beyond treatment. Participants receive a free YMCA membership for the duration of the program, giving them access to additional wellness resources and opportunities for continued physical activity.
Beyond the physical benefits, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA also focuses on emotional well-being and social connection. Participants often develop lasting friendships and find encouragement from others who understand the challenges of cancer recovery.
