What advice do you have for people who are at high risk for lung cancer?
Dr. Hill: While I think people should be concerned about lung cancer, they should also not be afraid to be evaluated for it, particularly those who fall into that high-risk group.
The American Lung Association has a website called Saved By The Scan (pictured at left) where people can go and learn more about lung cancer screening. This can be found at savedbythescan.org. There’s a quiz on that site that will go over whether you’re truly eligible for screening.
If you don’t meet all the eligibility criteria, but you’re still concerned, you should talk to your physician. And, at the early stages, it’s incredibly treatable. Nowadays, we really have made a lot of progress. It’s not a diagnosis anyone wants to have. But we can help make people better.
